Kerawalapitiya power plant last phase inauguration Feb 25

The last phase of the Kerawalapitiya dual power plant which produces
100 mega watt to the national grid will be inaugurated by President
Mahinda Rajapaksa on February 25.
Under the advice of the Power and Energy Ministry, Lakdanavi Limited
has commenced the construction of Kerawalapitiya dual power project
which generates 300 mw.

The first phase which has already been commissioned produces 200 mw
to the national grid.
After the second phase the national grid will be supplemented with
another 100 mw of power.
The power project is designed and constructed by local experts and
engineers, Power and Energy Ministry sources said.
No action had been taken by previous Governments to meet the
increasing demand of power or construct power plants.
This Government took steps to mitigate the power crisis by
constructing power plants.
The power crisis that could have occurred in 2008 was averted due to
the Kerawalapitiya power plant, the sources added. |
