Competitive exam for SLAS recruitment

The Examinations Department will hold an open competitive examination
for recruitment to the Sri Lanka Administrative Service (SLAS) today and
tomorrow.
An Examination Department Senior Official told the Daily News that
arrangements have been made to conduct the examination in Colombo at 196
centres and at eight centres in Jaffna.
According to Public Administration and Home Affairs Ministry sources,
there are over 100 vacancies to be filled in various departments,
ministries and District and Divisional Secretaries in the Government
service.
The new recruits will be deployed specially in the Northern and
Eastern Provinces.
The recruits will have to undergo a one year training which will be
conducted by Sri Lanka Institute of Development Administration before
their appointment. The SLAS is the key administrative service of the
Government, with officers working both in the Central government and
Provincial Councils.
It was formed as the Ceylon Administrative Service in 1963 as
successor to the then Ceylon Civil Service which was abolished on May 1,
1963.
After January 1, 2005, four Grades such as Special Grade, Class 1,
Class 11, Class 111 were introduced to include the existing number of
cadres at 200, 507,639 and 1,059.
