Satellite info for disaster management

Sri Lanka will receive training on effective and timely use of satellite information for disaster management, especially for post-disaster response activities at the fifth Sentinel Asia System Operation Training to be held in Colombo from February 22 to 26 with technical support from the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). 3

The training is vital to alleviate suffering of victims during disasters while improving the capacity to process satellite imagery to yield information required for disaster response activities, the Government Information Department Website said.

The event will be attended by 20 local and 19 overseas participants from the Asia-Pacific region. The cost of conducting the training will be shared between the Disaster Management and Human Rights Ministry and JAXA.
