Addressing a felicitation ceremony held in his honour by the people of Matara opposite the historic Matara Bodhi premises, Jayasuriya said he did not have the time to do politics despite many invitations made by the people due to his hectic cricketing career.

He had now finally decided to do so because it was the duty of all and sundry to assist the President in his efforts to rebuild this nation as a pleasant place for all communities to live in.

Provincial Council members Aruna Gunaratne and Sarath Yapa and Matara Pradeshiya Sabha member Lasantha Sanjeewa also spoke.
