Beauty, they say is only skin deep but that is not the case for the
12 semi-finalists for the Miss Slovakia 2010 contest who explored the
splendours of Sri Lanka recently during a week’s stay in the island.

The girls, all brimming with beauty and personality, said they had a
remarkable week sightseeing in the country. They also sparkled at a
fashion show put together by Cinnamon Lakeside and Sri Lanka Tourism to
promote garments designed by some of the island’s leading designers.
“The golden beaches were the main attraction for me because Slovakia
is situated in the middle region of the European continent. It is still
the winter season and we do not get any sunlight at all. It is a
refreshing change to be in a sunny climate,” doe-eyed Lucia Ivanova
highlighted what she loved most about the tour.
She said that the girls have been to the hill country to visit tea
estates and had even been to a couple of temples to observe religious
practices. Each day had been a day packed with activity and special in
its own way as it had opened doors to new experiences.
Another significant feature she noticed during her stay was the
Kandyan sari which she dubs one of the most elegant garments she had
ever come across. She had actually tried on a six yard batik creation
and had been enchanted on how it brought out her feminine curves.
Speaking about modelling in Slovakia Lucia said that girls of
moderate height and good body shape are groomed to become professional
super models.
“They prefer the natural look. All the girls have worked hard to make
it to the finals. We hope to give a good competition to each other at
the finals but it all depends on what catches the judge’s eye,” she
noted while adding that this is her first visit to Sri Lanka.
“I have lived in Hong Kong for a year and had also been to European
countries and Mexico. I will definitely tell all my friends what a
beautiful country Sri Lanka is,” said Lucia who is engaged in law
studies at Anglia Ruskin University.
For Hana Kikova the Miss. Slovakia pageant had been a part of an
‘experiment’. The charming beauty with an adventurous streak said she
had never modelled before.
“I learnt a lot and met a lot of new friends and professionals in the
field ever since I took part in the competition. Modelling is a highly
regarded profession in our country and many young girls vie to become
professional models. Slovakian women are given equal place as men in all
activities,” she stressed. She says that Sri Lanka is a very good
holiday destination and that she would love to visit the island again to
spend her vacation here.
“Maybe towards the end of the semester I will visit the country with
my friends,” added the 19-year-old who aims to excel in the field of
Advertising and Marketing Communications.
Klaudia Vlckova (22), in the running for Miss Slovekia for Miss
Universe 2010, is a beauty with intelligence. Her stay in Sri Lanka was
unforgettable and she enjoyed every location she went to and most of all
she loved the nature and time spent on the beaches.Jana Mutnanska said
this is her first time in Sri Lanka and she loved every moment because
of the culture and the way people smile. She is already making plans to
come to Sri Lanka in the coming summer.
Modelling has been her dream from the time she was 12 years old. She
was also chosen as Miss Hesitance when she and other girls went to the
hotel for one of their photo shoots.
The pre-pageant takes place on February 28 and the grand coronation
night is on March 7. Miss Slovakia 2009 Denisa Mendrejova will crown her
successor at the end of the event. The winner will represent the country
at the 59th Miss Universe 2010 beauty contest which will be held in
Australia, Bolivia, Croatia or Indonesia. More than 80 countries and
territories will compete for Miss Universe 2010. |
