development of severe vision loss or blindness by as much as half."
Early signs of damage can be seen by a physician even before the patient
notices any change in his or her vision, she said.
She explained that Glaucoma is particularly dangerous because it can
harm vision without victims even realizing they are at risk.

Another CSR initiative by Mobitel
Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel helped clean the area surrounding Welikada
Prison located in Colombo.
The improper dumping of garbage in this area caused a health hazard
and aesthetically damaged the area's liveability due to unsightly muddle
of refuse and pungent odours, observing the negative consequences this
caused to society, such as the spread of diseases, Mobitel sprang to
action to address this issue.
A comprehensive plan was developed to arrest this issue and work
towards the betterment of society.
The initial step of the plan was the building a four meter high wall
and two bins which will contain the refuse and the spread of odour
followed by the placing of mobile trailers to collect solid waste.
Access to these collection points was also critical to the solution
and was duly constructed by Mobitel.
A communication channel was then initiated with Colombo Municipal
Council to ensure the waste is collected and disposed in a timely and
sanitary manner.
Thanking the efforts of Mobitel, Municipal Commissioner Badrani
Jayawardena said, "I would like to thank Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel and
the Welikada Prison Authorities for the initiative and support shown by
them. This endeavour was no minor feat.
It's only through our contributed effort that we were able to make it
a success." The plan was carried out with the full support of the
Colombo Municipal ouncil and the Welikada Prison authorities.
