Vasu to contest from Ratnapura

Presidential Adviser and Democratic Leftist Front Secretary Vasudewa Nanayakkara has decided to contest the Ratnapura District under the United People’s Freedom Alliance at the upcoming General Election.

Nanayakkara who started his politics through the Students’ Movement of Lanka Samasamaja Party in 1957, was elected as a Member of Parliament for Kiriella electorate in 1970. Thereafter he functioned as a Member of Parliament in 1989 and 1995 and contested for Colombo Municipal Council and became the Opposition Leader there. Vasudewa, who is a dominant leader of the leftist movement of Sri Lanka engaged in a struggle against the selling of State property and was successful to bestow several such organizations to the Government including Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation.
