EC promises free and fair election

Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayake has assured that he is ready to take more measures than that of the recently concluded Presidential Election to ensure a free and fair election.

The Elections Commissioner gave this assurance when National Freedom Front leader Wimal Weerawansa MP met him yesterday to discuss forthcoming Parliamentary election and related issues. Addressing the media after meeting the Elections Commissioner, Weerawansa said that he met the Elections Commissioner to ask him to take additional measures to hold a free and fair election.

Weerawansa has further asked the Commissioner not to allow the defeated candidates to cry over the election result as defeated candidates normally raise various allegations regarding the result.

The Elections Commissioner has said that more precautionary measures will be taken to ensure a free and fair election.
