Seizure of Rs 75 million:

CID grills Asoka Tilakaratne

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) who is conducting investigations into the recovery of Rs 75 million consisting of several foreign currencies, yesterday recorded a lengthy statement from Asoka Tilakaratne, mother of Danuna Tilakaratne, son-in law of General Sarath Fonseka.

After recording her statement she will be produced before the Colombo Fort Magistrate and Additional District Judge Lanka Jayaratne today, the investigators said.

The CID will obtain assistance from the Central Bank Financial Intelligence Division in order to ascertain about the foreign currency found in four vaults at a private bank.

On Monday a special CID team seized Rs 75 million including US Dollars 527,000, Sterling Pounds 100 and Rs. 15 million.
