Lak Sathosa to become biggest supermarket chain

The Lak Sathosa network will be turned into the biggest supermarket chain in Sri Lanka with 200 trade stalls before the Sinhala and Hindu New Year festival.

Trade, Marketing Development, Co-operatives and Consumer Affairs Minister Bandula Gunawardene told the Daily News that consumers had expressed satisfaction over the Government's effort and a large number of consumers have begun to purchase essential commodities from Lak Sathosa outlets islandwide. He said prices of almost all essential goods in the market have been slashed after the new Lak Sathosa outlets were opened in the country.

"We have the biggest supermarket chain in Sri Lanka with 160 Lak Sathosa outlets.

"The Government's main concern is to bring down the high prices of essential goods and provide relief to the people", he said.
