JHU to contest in five districts

Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) yesterday announced that its Central
Committee and Supreme Council have unanimously decided to contest five
districts in the forthcoming General Election to be held on April 8.
Jathika Hela Urumaya Progaganda Secretary Nishantha Warnasinghe said
they will contest in the districts, Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara,
Kurunegala and Kandy.
JHU Minister Champika Ranawaka has been appointed to contest for the
Colombo district .The party’s National Organizer and Parliamentary Group
Leader Ven. Athuraliye Rathana Thera has been appointed as the candidate
for Gampaha district, said Warnasinghe.
Lawyer M.C. Jayaratna will contest from Kurunegala, District
Organizer and Pradeshiya Sabha Member Thushara Swarnatilleke from Kandy
and Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa’s Public Relations Officer and
Flight Lieutinent Shantha Jayatilleke will contest from Kalutara.
Warnasinghe said the Party has proposed the names of JHU Leader Ven
Ellawala Medhananda Thera and the party’s General Secretary Dr. Omalpe
Sobhitha Thera to be included in the National List.
He said the JHU will have a poster and polythene free election
campaign as usual.
“We expect the public to show their gratitude to the party on the
basis of what we have done to protect the country’s unitary status as
with our political ideology to defeat terrorism which we have maintained
so firmly right from the start,” he said.
We also want the public to consider our service done in regard to
promoting a country free of alcohol and other drugs, he said. We also
ask the public to take into account the perseverance we have displayed
in handling external pressure in the country’s fight against terrorism,
he added. |
