UPFA District Leaders, Deputy Leaders sign nominations

District Leaders and Deputy Leaders of UPFA groups contesting the
forthcoming General Election signed their nomination papers at the
auspicious time yesterday before President Mahinda Rajapaksa who is also
the President of the SLFP and the UPFA, at the Presidential Secretariat.
A press release by the President’s Media Division said among them
were leaders and Deputy Leaders in 17 districts.
They are Piyasena Gamage and Gunaratne Weerakoon, Leader and Deputy
Leader - Galle District, Kumar Welgama and Rohitha Abeygunawardena -
Kalutara, Tissa Karaliyadda and S.M. Chandrasena, Anuradhapura,
Maithripala Sirisena and Siripala Gamlath - Polonnaruwa, Sumedha
Jayasena and Jagath Pushpakumara - Moneragala, Nimal Siripala de Silva
and Dilan Perera - Badulla, Sarath Amunugama and Mahindananda
Aluthgamage - Kandy, C.B. Ratnayake and Arumugam Thondaman - Nuwara
Eliya, Susil Premajayantha and A.H.M. Fowzie - Colombo, Milroy Fernando
and Priyankara Jayaratne - Puttalam, W.D.J. Seneviratne and Pavithra
Wanniarachchi - Ratnapura, S.B. Navinna and Anura Priyadarshana Yapa -
Kurunegala, Janaka Bandara Tennakoon and Rohana Kumara Dissanayake -
Matale and Athauda Seneviratne and Ranjith Siyambalapitiya - Kegalle.
A special feature was that the entire UPFA nomination list for
Hambantota District had been finalized. All candidates for Hambantota
district signed the nomination papers yesterday.
Among them were District Leader Chamal Rajapaksa, Deputy Leader
Mahinda Amaraweera, Namal Rajapaksa, Nirupama Rajapaksa and V.K. Indika.
Professionals and veterans in various fields are among the new faces
in the UPFA nomination lists.
Colombo District Leader and UPFA General Secretary Susil
Premajayantha addressing the gathering said the signing of nomination
papers by candidates of all UPFA nomination lists covering the whole
country would be completed by February 21. He expressed the hope that
all candidates would conduct their election campaign with dedication by
upholding election laws. |
