The convention of the Maha Sangha to be held next Thursday at the
historic Maha Maluwa of the Sri Dalada Maligawa was convened to discuss
the problems faced by the Buddhist clergy and not to lend support to any
political party or political group, Chief Prelate of the Malawatte
Chapter Most Ven Thibbotuwawe Sri Siddharatha Sumangala Maha Nayaka
Thera said.
The chief prelates of the three sects of the Buddhist clergy have
been invited to participate in this non-political convention that was
not convened for any political purpose, the Maha Nayaka Thera noted
yesterday
The Maha Nayaka Thera said the Maha Sangha should in every instance
of national importance act in a non-partisan way. The convention,
therefore, was neither in favour nor against the Government.
“Different political parties, have their own political agendas and
some members of the Maha Sangha may support any one of these parties,”
said the Maha Nayaka Thera.
The Maha Sangha had come forward whenever any major problem was faced
by the country at all times but during recent times the Maha Sangha had
not met to discuss the religious problems and those faced by the Maha
Sangha, the Maha Nayaka Thera also said. |
