On supply chains, logistics and transport:

Training program and CEOs’ forum

The Department of Transport and Logistics Management (TLM), University of Moratuwa will conduct a training program on supply chains, logistics and transport on February 16 and 17 at Galle Face Hotel, Colombo which will be followed by a CEO’s Forum on 18. The main speaker in both these events is Prof. Phil Scott who is currently an Honourary Fellow at the Sydney Business School, University of Wollongong, Australia.

The training program is carried out with the objective of extending the understanding of supply chains, transport and logistics as a strategy to improve corporate profitability.

It also aims at equipping the participants with the necessary skills to achieve greater effectiveness with existing supply chains, transport and logistics while exposing them to global best practices and modern thinking.

Effective supply chain management is becoming an increasingly important contributor to corporate profitability. Hence this program will address these critical issues to impart professional skills for senior and middle level managers in charge of the supply chain management in their respective companies.

This course will be especially useful for manufacturing companies, freight forwarding companies, transport and logistics providers. Apart from the main speaker, Dept. of TLM Head Prof. Amal Kumarage Prof. Saman Bandara (Dept. of Civil Engineering) and Eng. Ranil Sugathadasa (Dept. of TLM), will be sharing their expertise in this two-day program. Upon completion the participants will be awarded a certificate issued by the University of Moratuwa.

The CEO’s Forum intends to assist the Sri Lankan CEOs to identify the areas for cost reductions and performance improvements in the process of handling materials and finished products through an international case study based presentation of global best practices in the management of supply chains, logistics and transport.

In addition to prof. Phil Scott and prof. Amal Kumarage, Ceylon Chamber of Commerce Deputy Vice Chairman Suresh K. Shah will be contributing as a resource person in this two - hour event which is scheduled to be at 5 p.m. at the Galle Face Hotel, Colombo on February 18.
