The characteristic feature of the 131 year old, Royal Colombo Golf
Club (RCGC) is the providing of a salubrious ambience for its members,
to socially unwind and relax in an atmosphere that is most congenial.
Whilst this is true, its equally true to say, that the main thrust
of the RCGC however is the fostering and promotion of the sport of golf
amongst its members and guests.
Painstaking though it be, the club does organize and conducts major
tournaments during different times of the year, which are prestigious in
outlook. Not forgetting the Monthly Medal round golf competition, which
is more often than not sponsored by a benefactor.
These medal round golf is worked off each month right through the
year - these competitions enables the participants to focus on golf to
thereby improve their skills and enhance the spirit of camaraderie that
prevail amongst the members.
This year the monthly medal round golf began in January and the
second of its kind was held last Saturday at the RCGC. There were around
100 golfers competing with play confined to the Stableford format. The
players played according to their categories as determined by their
respective handicaps - viz; A Division 0-9, B Division 10-18, C
Division 19-28. There was in addition a Masters, Seniors, Sri Lanka Pool
