Free sterilising clinic

The Animal Welfare and Protection Association will conduct a free sterilising/ neutering clinic at 182, Chapel Lane (Palliya Para) behind Baptist Church, Gonawala, Kelaniya on Saturday, February 13 from 7.30 a.m. to 12.00 noon.


Three remanded

Galle District Anti-Crime Unit arrested three persons engaged in transporting fish caught using dynamite.

Police also recovered 20 boxes of fish from the lorry which they had used in this illegal business. These suspects were produced before the Galle Magistrate and remanded.


Susil Munasinghe 80 today

Susil Munasinghe, who held several posts as a Chief Minister, Parliamentarian, diplomat, chairman of corporations including the political, diplomatic arena of Sri Lanka, celebrates his 80th birthday today.

Munasinghe who was the first Chief Minister of the Western Province, played a prominent role in the establishment of the Provincial Council system of Sri Lanka. He is currently compiling an academic book on the subject of Provincial Council system of Sri Lanka.


Series of pinkamas

A series of pinkamas organized to mark the Founder’s day on the 23rd anniversary of P. de S. Kularatne Vidyalaya, Ambalangoda will be held today at the school premises with the participation of the staff, Old Boys Association, School Development Society and students. To coincide with the occasion, a sharmadana campaign organized by Principal, Jagath Senaratne will also be held.


Memorial sermon

Ven Dr. Ittapane Dhammalankara Thera, Anu Nayaka, Kotte Sri Kalyani Samagri Dharma Maha Sangha Sabha will deliver a special Dhamma sermon at Temple Road, Gonaduwa, Moronthuduwa today at 7.30 p.m. This memorial sermon marks the seven-day remembrance of late V.D. Somawathi Samarasekara, mother of Ven. Gonaduwe Gunananda Thera, Hony Secretary, Samastha Lanka Shasanarakshaka Balamandalaya. Late Mrs Samarasekara, the mother of six children including Ven. Gonaduwe Gunananda Thera served as a teacher for 40 years until she died at the age of 98 years.


Deyata Kirula attracts nearly two million

Nearly two million people from all parts of the country have viewed the Deyata Kirula exhibition held at Pallekelle during the last seven days, said State Revenue and Finance Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya. The Government has decided to hold the next Deyata Kirula exhibition in an electorate in the Badulla district focused on the Uva Province.


Sports meet

The annual inter house sports meet of Buddhist Ladies’ College, Dharmapala Mawatha, Colombo 7 will be held at the N.C.C. Grounds, Colombo 7 on February 18 (Thursday) commencing 1.00 p.m. The chief guest on this occasion will be Sports and Recreation Ministry Secretary S. Liyanage.


Supiri Mal Dekma

Supiri Mal Dekma exhibition and sale of plants will be held at Viharamahadevi Park from February 12 to 14, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.

For those who are interested in growing orchids as a hobby or self-employment, a lecture will be delivered by Susila Gunasekara, President, Orchid Circle of Ceylon. Supiri Mal Dekma is organised by Punya Kathnarachchi.


Tissa Central Sports meet

K/L Tissa Central College inter-house awards presentation ceremony will be held on February 12 Friday at the college grounds. The ceremony will commence at 1.30 p.m. under the auspices of the guest of the honour, Kalutara Zonal Director of Education N. W. Perera with the patronage of the school principal Wilfred Weerasinghe and the participation of the OBA. The chief guest will be an old boy of the school, Specialist Doctor and the Director of the Army Hospital Major General S. H. Munasinghe. The school will complete 75 years next year. Well-wishers and old pupils are invited to participate.


Joes sports meet

The annual inter-house sports meet of St. Joseph’s College Colombo will be held on tomorrow at the College Ground commencing at 1.30 p.m.

The chief guest will be Prasan Liyanage Finance Director, Freight Links Ltd. who fine athlete and captain St. Joseph’s cricket in 1989. Liyanage will distribute the awards.
