SLID Training Program:

Second module on Friday

The Sri Lanka Institute of Directors (SLID) will conduct the second module in their training program on Corporate Stewardship and Board Room Governance on February 12.

At the last sessions

'Making your Audit Committee more effective' will be the topic discussed on Friday, facilitated by International Management consultant Ranil Wijesinghe, formerly of Pricewaterhouse Coopers. Wijesinghe will challenge his highly experienced senior panel of professionals - Aitken Spence PLC, Chief Financial Officer Nilanthi Sivapragasam, Ernest and Young, Partner Tax, Lakmali Nanayakkara, Ceylon Tobacco Company PLC, Former Legal Director, Vijaya Malalasekera, Nations Trust Bank, Director, R. Rasiah, Ernest and Young. Managing Partner Asite Talwatte and Lion Brewery of Ceylon PLC, Director/ CEO Suresh Shah.

The third module 'Focusing on key areas reserved for the Board' led by Hemas Holdings, Chairman Lalith de Mel, will have John Keells Deputy Chairman Ajit Gunewardena, former Chairman Hayleys N.G. (Tanky) Wickremaratne, Precedent Partner Arittha Wickramanayake, Dialog Telekom PLC, CEO, Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya and Postgraduate Institute of Management Director, Dr. Uditha Liyanage fielding the challenge on March 18 at the Cinnamon Grand.

Modules four, five and six will deal with "Effectively dealing with contemporary issues," "A functioning remuneration committee" and "Governance issues of specific organization."

The caliber of professionals handling each module will not only add value through their knowledge and experience but will also act as inspirational role models to participants to demonstrate independence, accountability, and transparency.

SLID President Mahen Dayananda said "This series of training programs, spread over a period of six months, is part of a well planned strategy to carry Sri Lanka forward in to a new era of economic prosperity, building a business culture that is world class.

We have opened it to guests from the private and public sector as well giving the participants an opportunity to interact with the top business professionals of Sri Lanka who would share their business experiences and expertise."
