Royal College anniversary celebrations

The Royal College has organised a host of Religious services to bless the college in keeping with its 175th anniversary celebrations. The religious services will be held across all secular divisions beginning on February 9, and ending on February 15.

The Buddhist Religious services will commence with an All Night Pirith Chanting on February 9 at the College Hall. Prior to the Pirith, a Perehera organised by the teachers, students and parents of the college will commence at 7.00 p.m. from the Navarangahala to escort Venerable Monks of the Gangaramaya Temple to the College Hall. The All Night Pirith Sajjayanawa will conclude at 5.30 a.m. the following morning February 10 and subsequently a Heel Dana for Venerable Monks who attended the Pirith Sajjayanawa will be held at the Gangaramaya Temple at 7.00 a.m.

A Sangika Dana pinkama with the participation of Most Venerable Mahanayake Theras of all chapters will be held at the College Hall on Wednesday February 10 from 10.00 a.m. onwards.

The Venerable Monks will also be received at the Royal College Union office, from where another Perehera will commence to escort the Venerable Monks back to the college hall for the Sangika Dana pinkama.

February 10 will also see the conducting of Islamic Religious Services.

A special Prayer Service will be held at the Dewatagaha Mosque at 7.00 a.m. followed by a special Islamic program at the Navarangahala from 9.00 a.m. onwards on the same day.

February 11 will see both the Bambalapitiya kovil and the school premises being at the forefront of Hindu religious services.

A special Pooja will be held at the Bambalapitiya Sri Mannikka Vinayagar Kovil at 5.00 a.m. followed by a Hindu Religious Procession from the Kovil to the Navarangahala at 7.30 a.m. The procession will travel along Galle Road, Bagathale Road, Thurstand Road and to the college premises. At the Navarangahala another pooja service will be held at 10.00 a.m.

The Christian Religious activities are centered around a special Thanks Giving Service which will be held at the College Hall on Monday February 15 at 6.00 p.m. in the presence of Most Reverend Dr. Oswald Gomis, former Archbishop of Colombo and Rt. Reverend Duleep De Chikera, Bishop of Colombo.
