Ambepitiya fastest in South Asia
The promising sprinter Shehan Ambepitiya and long jumper Chamila
Dilrukshi Priyadarshani bagged a Gold Medal each on the third day of
Athletic Events held at the Bangabandhu Stadium here in Dhaka.
Shehan, the Silver medallist in the 200 metres on Sunday was
determined to provide better running skills. He was one hundred percent
certain of achieving glory and he proved his class to win the 100 metres
dash in astonishing manner.
The 20-year-old Shehan who predicted his Gold Medal win in the 100
metres event after 200 metres event became the fastest man in the South
Asian region returning a time of 10.46 secs. Blessed with a perfect
start Shehan flew in good speed to out beat the rest of sprinters.
Chamila collected the second Gold in the women’s Long Jump event. She
had a leap of 6.20 metres in her winning jump. Chamila’s 6.20 metres was
in her sixth attempt.
In the 100 metres Women’s event Premila Priyadarshani won the Silver
Medal - 11.93 secs and Achala Dias took the Bronze Medal 12.12 secs.
Rohan Pradeep, Rohitha Pushpakumara, Prasanna Amarasekera, W.G.
Wickremasinghe collected the Silver Medal in the Men’s 4X400 metres
relay returning a time of 3:08:94 secs.
In the Women’s 4X400 relay Tharuja Kumari, Menaka Wickremasinghe,
Ratna Kumari, Chandrika Subashini won the Silver medal timing 3:44:81
secs.
Nalin Priyantha cleared 2.13 metres in the Men’s High Jump for a
Bronze Medal. Chaminda Wijekoon Gold Medallist in the 1,500 metres on
Saturday was only able to win the Bronze Medal for the 5,000 metres with
a time of 14:47:68 secs.
Swimming - three Medals
Sri Lanka swimmers collected one Silver and two Bronze on the final
day of the Swimming Competition held at National Swimming Complex,
Mirpur.
The Women’s 4X100 metres Medley relay quartet of Gihara Sachini
Amarasinghe, Mineka Karunaratne, Miniruwani Samarakoon and Madhavee
Weeratunga clocked 4:52:24 secs for the Silver Medal.
The Men’s relay quartet of Heshan Unamboowe, Diluk Thibbotuwawe,
Conrad Francis won the Bronze in the Men’s 4X100 Medley relay timing
4:07:04 secs while Madhavee Kaushalya secured the Bronze in the Women’s
50 metres free-style 29.78 secs.
Reshika Amali Udugampola finished fourth 29.78 secs.
Conrad Francis just failed the Bronze in the 50 metres Breast Stroke
being placed fourth 31:03 secs. Thibbotuwawe sixth in the event - 32:34
secs.
Karate
Mohamed Nifaz competing in the Men’s Individual Kumitte Under 75kg
won the Silver Medal. |
