K. Chandrasena Kandy District Correspondent
The Government is engaged in a program to create a well disciplined
society where human qualities will reign supreme. Towards this
objective, the Maha Sangha can play a vital role by strengthening this
program, Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayaka said.
The Prime Minister made this observation as chief guest at the title
awarding ceremony held at Sri Sugatha Maha Viharaya Ihagama last Sunday
where Ven. Madipola Dhammika Thera was conferred the title Upa-Pradana
Sangha Nayake of the Udarata Amarapura Chapter.
This ceremony was presided over by the Most Ven. Dhawuldeniye
Gnaneeshsara Mahanayake Thera of the Amarapura Chapter.
The Prime Minister said today, our country is going through a massive
change in all spheres.
The crime rate which was on the increase has declined. The citizens
of this country want peace and prosperity.
We have a vision towards implementing these changes. In implementing
this process, the Maha Sangha of the village temple has a big role to
play. Foreign domination destroyed the nexus between the village and
clergy. However, this Government is engaged in restoring a righteous
society by introducing moral values in society, the Prime Minister said.
Minister of Plantation Industries D.M. Jayaratne said everyone should
gratefully recall the major contribution made by the Maha Sangha for
their valuable advice in the country's efforts towards economic and
social development.
Prominent members of the Buddhist clergy along with Minister Dr.
Sarath Amunugama, Keheliya Rambukwella, Central Province Chief Minister
Sarath Ekanayake, Provincial Minister Ediriweera Weerawardene,
Provincial and Pradeshiya Sabha Councillors were also present on the
occasion.
The act of appointment was presented to Ven. Madipola Dhammika Thera
by Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayaka while Wijinipatha was
presented by Minister Keheliya Rambukwella. The maiden 'Atapirikara' was
offered by Minister Dr. Sarath Amunugama. |
