N-E development to be accelerated

Whatever decisions were taken by the voters of the North and East at
the elections, the Government would ensure the completion of the
development projects without any hesitation, Local Government and
Provincial Councils Minister Janaka Bandara Tennakoon said.
The development activities in North and East had been seriously
affected by LTTE terrorist activities during the last three decades. But
the Government was determined to accelerate the development process in
those areas, Minister Tennakoon added.
He was speaking at an event organized at Yapagama, Dambulla recently
to distribute 25 new double cabs for 25 Pradeshiya Sabhas in the North
and East.
The Ministry had spent Rs. 37.5 million to provide infrastructure
facilities needed by the Local bodies in the North and East Provinces.
Tractors, trailers, backhoe machines worth over Rs.120 million had
been distributed to selected Local bodies in the same provinces under
the Uthuru Vasanthaya accelerated program to ease their daily work
routine programs.
Northen Province Governor Major General G.A. Chandrasiri, Local
Government Commissioner R. Wijayalakshmi and Local Government and
Provincial Councils Secretary Casion Herath were also present. |
