Inspector General of Police Mahinda Balasooriya yesterday thanked Senior DIG (elections) Gamini Navaratne and his staff and the Security Forces, police and state officers and the public who assisted him to ensure a fair and peaceful 2010 Presidential elections on January 26.

There were no major incidents reported on election day. The IGP also thanked the party supporters for their assistance to the police and the Three Forces during the elections day.

The IGP said that certain groups alleged that the election was not fair but those allegations had been proved wrong.
