Hamas Leader favours ties with Al-Fatah
Egypt: Palestinian Islamic faction Hamas called reconciliation with
its rival Al-Fatah , promoted by Egypt, even when it criticized the
underground wall that is being built in the south border of Gaza, the
Saudi press reported on Monday.
The political leader of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas),
Khaled Meshaal, considered the understanding process with the
organization led by the President of the Palestine National Authority,
Mahmoud Abbas, in its final stages.
Meshaal was welcomed here on Sunday by the Saudi Arabia’s Foreign
Affairs Minister, Prince Saud al-Faisal, a week after King Abdulah Bin
Abdulaziz Al-Saud met with Abbas in Riad in order to bring the two
parties closer. “We made great steps forward reconciliation, said the
leader exiled in Syria after talking with Al-Faisal, though he made
clear that Hamas has still some points to settle the Egyptian proposal.
However, he confirmed that everybody agrees that the signing of the
reconciliation accord must be made in Cairo, whose authorities asked the
Wahabita Kingdom for helping in that process through separate contacts
with representatives of the two Palestinian factions.
The Egyptian initiative proposes presidential and legislative
elections in June in West Bank, ruled by Al-Fatah, and Gaza Strip,
controlled by Hamas. Riad, Prensa Latina
