Taking Sri Lanka around the world

Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel, tying up with Lanka Tv Neth, will enhance and facilitate a new generation of television viewing. Lanka T.V. Neth is a popular Digital TV channel based in Greece which will now be powered from Sri Lanka by Mobitel's Broadband service, thereby ensuring top quality and seamless broadcasts for the enjoyment of all. This service covers over two million Sri Lankans spread out among 158 countries and acts as a little taste of home to these expatriates. A pilot run was conducted during August 2009, telecasting the 'Dalada Perahera', which received much acclaim and to the enjoyment of all those who witnessed it via streaming. The main audience that is being catered to is the Sri Lankan expatriates working in the Middle Eastern and European countries who are thirsty for a little taste of home. For the first time in Sri Lanka live programs are uploaded from site to earth station by using Mobitel's mobile broadband service. Later it will be broadcast to televisions and computers all around the world through the satellite technology.

Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel Chairperson Leisha de Silva Chandrasena, said, "We are sure that our involvement will ensure that the Sri Lankan expatriates will be able to view and enjoy the programs coming from Sri Lanka through Digital TV and web. This proves our widest coverage and superior uplink quality of 3.5 G network which enables us to take Sri Lanka around the world."

Lanka TV Neth Chairperson, Malie Hettiarachchi said, "We are proud and happy to be able to bring our expatriates a certain level of satisfaction and quell a bit of their homesickness by broadcasting original Sri Lankan Program from our offices in Sri Lanka.


CCS wins Gold

Ceylon Cold Stores PLC (CCS) took top honours at the prestigious Ceylon National Chamber of Industries (CNCI) Awards by winning the National Gold (Joint) Award in the Extra Large Category (Manufacturing Sector)

Days prior to this, it also won a Certificate of Commendation - Manufacturing Sector (Large Scale) at the Provincial Productivity Awards conducted by the National Productivity Secretariat.

CNCI Chairman Newton Wickremasuriya said, "This award is in recognition of CCS's commitment to quality, productivity, employer / employee relations, adherence to statutory requirements, respect for the environment, and effective contribution to national development".

This award also recognises the company's profitability, commitment to value addition, social responsibilities, fulfillment of industrial and occupational health and safety, energy conservation systems in use and the amount of energy saved during the period of assessment.

Asian Paints refurbishes Moratuwa Bus Terminal

Asian Paints, the Sri Lankan unit of the India-based multinational coatings company recently refurbished the terminal and repaired its roof, as part of their community proejcts.

The terminal building now sports the yellow and red livery of Asian Paints following its facelift with 'Permoglaze' exterior enamel paint.

"We are hoping to give this busy nucleus a bright new look for the people of Moratuwa where our factory is located," said Lanka Asian Paints Director and General Manager Joseph L. Pulikottil.

"Asian Paints is all about vibrant colour and we are delighted to present a bright and cheerful bus terminal to people who are travelling from and to Moratuwa," he said.

Hatton National Bank opened their 185th Customer centre at Kandana Road, Ganemulla recently. The chief guest for this occasion was HNB Asst General Manager - Network Relations Jayaraja Chandrasekera. HNB Deputy General Manager - Network Management Crysanthi Thambiah other senior bank officials, Government officials, local businessmen and customers were present at the occasion.
