Lanka Bell awards north expansion to Sierra Global
Lanka Bell, the largest CDMA ‘fixed line’ provider in the country
with 1.2 million subscribers has awarded it’s Northern Province
Expansion Project to Sierra Global Network one of the leading firms in
the telecom infrastructure development sector.
Sierra has been heavily involved in the network expansions of many
telecom operators in both North and East regions since it’s been
liberated. Managing Director of Lanka Bell, Prasad Samarasinghe stated

With their vast experience in the telecommunication field along with
a strong presence in the Northern Province, we are glad to tie up with
Sierra for our Northern expansion”.
Director/CEO of Sierra Global, Dr. Arosha Fernando, said “We have had
a long and fruitful partnership with Lanka Bell over the years in their
CDMA expansion drive through equipment provider Huawei - by providing
them with infrastructure development services for their base stations as
well as the cable laying of their state of the art Fibre optic submarine
cable network. “We are eagerly looking forward to starting work on this
exciting new project with Lanka Bell expanding into the North of the
Island.
We continue to provide them with the quality infrastructure they need
for this purpose”, Fernando said.
Most of the CDMA sites of networks for fixed line operators as well
as a significant portion of the expansion work of GSM networks for
mobile operators have been undertaken by Sierra Global making them the
single organisation with the highest number of telecommunication sites
installed in Sri Lanka.
Sierra Global is the first company in the telecom infrastructure
development sector in Sri Lanka to receive the ISO 9001:2008
certification with it’s focus to deliver the highest quality standard in
the projects.
“This is the first of many contracts for 2010 as we are almost
finalising number of other projects which are scheduled to roll-out
during this year,” Fernando said.
