Lanka Bell awards north expansion to Sierra Global

Lanka Bell, the largest CDMA ‘fixed line’ provider in the country with 1.2 million subscribers has awarded it’s Northern Province Expansion Project to Sierra Global Network one of the leading firms in the telecom infrastructure development sector.

Sierra has been heavily involved in the network expansions of many telecom operators in both North and East regions since it’s been liberated. Managing Director of Lanka Bell, Prasad Samarasinghe stated “As a truly Sri Lankan telecommunication company we are committed to providing all Sri Lankans the opportunity to experience the very best in voice and data communications.

With their vast experience in the telecommunication field along with a strong presence in the Northern Province, we are glad to tie up with Sierra for our Northern expansion”.

Director/CEO of Sierra Global, Dr. Arosha Fernando, said “We have had a long and fruitful partnership with Lanka Bell over the years in their CDMA expansion drive through equipment provider Huawei - by providing them with infrastructure development services for their base stations as well as the cable laying of their state of the art Fibre optic submarine cable network. “We are eagerly looking forward to starting work on this exciting new project with Lanka Bell expanding into the North of the Island.

We continue to provide them with the quality infrastructure they need for this purpose”, Fernando said.

Most of the CDMA sites of networks for fixed line operators as well as a significant portion of the expansion work of GSM networks for mobile operators have been undertaken by Sierra Global making them the single organisation with the highest number of telecommunication sites installed in Sri Lanka.

Sierra Global is the first company in the telecom infrastructure development sector in Sri Lanka to receive the ISO 9001:2008 certification with it’s focus to deliver the highest quality standard in the projects.

“This is the first of many contracts for 2010 as we are almost finalising number of other projects which are scheduled to roll-out during this year,” Fernando said.
