The great escape

I’m going to give it a try.

Being mischievous and playful is part of growing up. If we think baby animals are any different, we are wrong. This is baby Panda 'Wen Li' trying to make a great escape from her nursery pen.

The little one's sense of balance is still a bit wobbly and she toppled over the side, ending up with little more than an upside-down view of the inside of her pen.

And a handler nearby quickly grabbed her and gave her a cuddle.

The failed attempt did not appear to deter Wen Li. She was later spotted dangling from the edge of her playpen again, trying to escape.

These images of Wen Li - and her apparently quieter and better-behaved twin sister Ya Li - were taken at the "Chengdu Giant Panda Research Institute". According to researchers, Wen Li and Ya Li were born on July 19, 2009, and Just four pandas were born at the institute in 2009, compared to 18 babies born in 2008. They believe the mothers at the institute are too 'exhausted' to have anymore babies.
