Karzai condemns NATO killing civilians
Schoolchildren among dead:
Afghanistan: Afghan President Hamid Karzai denounced on Monday the
deaths of 10 civilians, including eight schoolchildren, in an air attack
of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in Kunar province.
Karzai condemned the crime, expressed his sadness, and ordered an
investigation on the incident carried out against the Afghan population
by the occupying forces.
An official report followed the one made by Kunar Provincial
Governor, Sabed Fazlullah Wahedi, who said that NATO warplanes attacked
a remote north-eastern region.
Wahedi noted that they could not go to that far-off region due to the
presence of insurgents there, but the oldest people in the village said
that the air raid took the lives of 10 civilians.
Spokespersons from the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF),
led by NATO, refused to make statements on the issue, and just said they
will examine the information.
However, those sources reported that joint forces of the Afghan Army
and foreign occupying troops carried out an armed clash with dozens of
insurgents in the north-western province of Badghis.
