The Government is taking all measures to provide youth with equal
opportunities and facilities as it has confidence in their abilities and
commitment to serve the country, said President Mahinda Rajapaksa at a
function in Anuradhapura on Monday.
He was addressing students who had completed their vocational
training programs.
“The country’s youth had taken the lead in the battle against
terrorism. Some of them had laid down their lives to ensure a peaceful
and prosperous future,” he added.
“The Government is providing the support to the youth to enlist their
maximum contribution to boost the national economy and make them
productive citizens,” President Rajapaksa said.
“To this purpose, the Government has strengthened the university
education system and enhanced vocational and technical education
facilities, he said.
“We are trying to provide the students who failed to get university
education, alternative avenues for higher studies,” he added.
The President said that he has instructed officials to come up with a
plan to help needy students with financial assistance. The President
also outlined the measures taken by the Government to enhance computer
literacy and English language education especially in rural areas.
