No PSUNU support for protest
The Public Services United Nurses Union (PSUNU) in a statement issued
yesterday said that it will not participate in the protest campaign
launched by nurses today.
The statement signed by PSUNU President Ven. Muruttettuwe Ananda
Thera said the Union has always had successful negotiations with the
National Salaries and Cadre Commission and Treasury and Health Ministry
Secretaries.
This was regarding outstanding issues such as eradication of salary
anomalies among the Nursing Cadre, setting up of a new Nursing Service
minute and opportunities for nursing staff attached to the Peradeniya
Allied Science Faculty to sit for external degrees and setting up of a
Nursing Degree Awarding Institute.
The Health Secretary has appointed a special committee to implement
these decisions.
A committee has also been appointed to consider the enhancement of
the accident allowance. At a time when demands won through negotiations
are about to be implemented certain trade union leaders were trying to
mislead nurses to attain their petty objectives by implementing their
individual agendas. Therefore the PSUNU requests its membership to
desist from participating any hollow agitations. |
