Hands off Defence Secretary, Security Forces - MEP

The Mahajana Eksath Peramuna calls upon the people to unite to defeat the reactionary machinations to intrude into the integrity of our country by plotters and schemers of the United National Party coalition, the representative of whom is Sarath Fonseka.

The Mahajana Eksath Peramuna, urges the masses to rally and prevent the United Nations special rapporteur from laying hands on the Defence Secretary and the Security Forces who strove towards the victory of our Motherland.

“Presidential candidate Sarath Fonseka, in his treasonous declaration to the Sunday Leader newspaper, has stated that on May 17, 2009 the Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa ordered the commander of the 58th Division, Shavendra Silva to shoot upon and kill the Tiger leaders who were preparing to surrender bearing white flags.

“The United Nations special rapporteur Philip Alston has quoted this statement and has queried from the Government whether it was true, that if it were inaccurate then its falsity needs to be proved,” MEP Leader Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said.

“Sarath Fonseka has made this statement, which betrays the sacrifice and dedication of our brave war heroes in defeating Tiger terrorism, after joining with the United National Party. “In the past the United National Party has, together with local and foreign reactionaries, strove to prevent the victory of forces and to fulfil the tasks required by the Tiger terrorists.

“We do not forget the efforts by foreign reactionaries to interfere in the liberty and sovereignty of our Motherland. It was the ability of the Government led by the President to overcome these efforts which caused the defeat of the Tigers and the triumph of our Motherland,” Gunawardena said in the press release.
