The success of the Co-operative Movement depends on the confidence
and goodwill of the consumers. Co-operative employees should be both
efficient and courteous if they are to earn consumer confidence and
goodwill, Labour Minister and the Kelaniya SLFP Chief Organizer Dr.
Mervyn Silva said at the opening of the refurbished Rural Bank of the
Dalugama MPCS Ltd at Munamalgahawatta, Kohawila, Kelaniya recently.
The Minister said that people had a very close association with
co-operatives because they catered to consumer needs. Therefore everyone
should ensure that this relationship is not hindered or broken.
He said that the Dalugama MPCS achieved daily progress due to the
efficiency and dedication of its Chairman Nalin Cabral and Board of
Directors. No one could hinder an institution’s progress if its
management was free of bribery and corruption. He said that the newly
opened Co-op- Cities at Mahara junction and Dalugama are rendering a
great service to the people of these areas by delivering all the
essential consumer items at a very reasonable prices. I may add that
these two Co-op-Cities are more popular than the socalled ‘Super
Markets’, the Minister said. Dalugama MPCS Chairman Nalin Cabral said
that the guidance offered by Minister Mervyn Silva had helped the Co-op
Society to achieve much progress. The Minister has monthly meetings with
the Chairman and the Board of Directors to review the progress of the
Society and chart its future policy and programs.
