Marked increase in November tea production

A report from the Sri Lanka Tea Board said that the total reported
production of tea in Sri Lanka during November 2009 amounted to
28,290,976 kg as against 24,830,727 kg produced during the corresponding
month in 2008. This shows an increase of a 13 percent amounting to
3,460,249 kg.
The Medium grown tea production including green tea in November this
year was 4,379,060 kg as against 3,708,866 kg. It is recorded that Low
growns has also had an increase in November this year of 17,050,767 kg
as against 12,941,630 kg November last year. Hence the total production
recorded an increase.
According to the Sri Lanka Tea Board report, the tea production
category wise in November this year was 28,290,976 kg as against
24,830,727 kg of tea production last year. The Orthodox recorded
26,600,088 kg in last month as against 22,637,961 kg. The CTC and Green
tea had a production of 1,505,080 kg and 185,809 kg last month
respectively as against 1,958,011 kg and 234,755 kg in November last
year.
The total tea production during the period January to November 2009
amounted to 263,800,250 kg as against 299,249,005 kg produced during the
corresponding period of 2008, showing a decrease of 11.8 percent
amounted to 35,448,800 kg. |
