The Social and Recreation Committee of the Moors Islamic Cultural
Home (MICH) organised world renowned billiards champion M.J.M. Lafir's
8th memorial Billiards and Snooker Tournament 2009 is now in progress at
the MICH Billiards Parlour, Dematagoda, Colombo. The national Hero
Mohamed Junaid Mohamed Lafir won the World Amateur Billiards
championship in Bombay in 1973 he became the first Sri Lankan to win a
world title in any sport. He won the National Snooker Championship 18
times and the Billiards on 16 occasions. Late Lafir passed away on April
26, 1981.
The billiards winner will receive the A.M.M. Rajabdeen Challenge
Trophy with Replica Rs. 25,000 cash award donated by Shafeek Rajabdeen
MP and Billiards runners-up will receive Challenge Trophy with replica
Rs. 15,000 cash award donated by hafiz Marikkar MMC. The Snooker winner
will receive the M.J.M. Azwer Challenge Trophy with replica Rs. 25,000
cash award donated by Colombo Leather Pvt Ltd and Snooker runner-up will
receive Ajward Hashim Challenge Trophy with replica Rs. 15,000 cash
award donated by Malship Ceylon Ltd.
