Climate Summit: 115 heads confirm participation

One hundred and fifteen heads of State confirmed their participation
at the historical Climate Summit currently progressing in Copenhagen,
UNFCCC Executive Secretary Yvo de Boer told the media at the Bella
Centre in Copenhagen yesterday.
The leaders are expected to reach climate change agreement under the
United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change with regard to
major issues such as CO2 emission cuts by developed countries and
financing for changes in climate developing countries which are
vulnerable to climate change.
De Boer told the media that the leaders are expected to arrive next
week to address the summit on Wednesday.
The head of the Sri Lankan delegation, Environment Minister Patali
Champika Ranawaka is expected to make a common statement on behalf of
SAARC countries which represent one fourth of the world population.
Sri Lanka currently holds the chairmanship of the SAARC. |
