Let peace and harmony prevail - AHM Azwer
Eid-ul-Adhuha is celebrated at the culmination of the Haj pilgrimage
performed by devotees in the 12th month of the Islamic lunar calendar,
accomplishing the fifth principle of Islam, incumbent upon those who can
afford to travel to, and sustain themselves in, the city of Makkah.

Over 2.5 million Muslims performed the pilgrimage this year,
fulfilling the promise of Allah to Prophet Ibrahim (on whom be peace)
that every generation will remember his supreme act of faith in
complying with Allah's command to sacrifice his son Ismail (on whom be
peace) who was saved at the Eleventh Hour, says Presidential Advisor A.
H. M. Azwer issuing a statement at the conclusion of the Haj season.
The festival marks a cornerstone for forgiveness, piety, conquering
one's ego, attaining self-purity, and being patriotic to the land of
one's birth.
Harmony has prevailed between the Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim
communities for over a thousand years, and it is evident such affinities
shall continue to prevail in the future years.
Islam connotes peace, and it is peace which has been achieved by our
President Mahinda Rajapaksa after a horrendous period of three decades
of terrorism which wrecked and ruined the country. Now is the time for
ethnic harmony and collective development in these days of tranquillity.
"Every Muslim prays daily for continued prosperity, peace and
progress in this isle." |
