Inspired by nature

Three young artists have been inspired to transfer the exultation they felt towards the beauty of nature on to canvas as expressions of art. They are Rajeewa Mallawaarachchi, Rupika Nissankarachchi and Sunil Shantha. An exhibition of their paintings will be held on December 19 and 20. The opening ceremony will take place on December 18 at the Artway Art Gallery at No. 66, Old Kesbewa Road, Nugegoda.

The exhibition is free for the public and is a good opportunity for those who appreciate art.

"I hope the viewers will appreciate my work. I have transferred my experiences on to canvas as lines and shapes.

Those that cannot be expressed by lines and shapes are presented by using physical objects. It is known as 'installation art' in the modern world. I have attempted to give an explanation to some problems in society.

Although they are expressions created for my satisfaction. I have decided to present them to those who appreciate art," Rajeewa stated.

Rupika is an ardent fan of the natural environment and had embraced its beauty in her creation. She says: "Whenever I observe a heart awakening landscape I make an effort to keep it in my memory.

My attempt with paints is a way of preserving lasting memories as paintings. I invite the art loving public to judge my works."

"My creations come in two mediums, water colours and charcoal. Among the works in water colours are images from the life of the fisherfolk, a young Buddhist priest amidst the solitude in the temple, and villagers shopping at the Sunday fair," Sunil explained some of the creations which will be showcased at the exhibition.

"I had the opportunity to study charcoal drawing from a skill charcoal artist in Thailand. 'Prabuddha' is a result of my attempt at this technique. I have attempted to present the rhythmic line of nature in the form of naked human figures drawn in charcoal."
