India, LatAm look for food cooperation
India: India and Latin America began Sunday a three-day meeting on
food security aimed at drawing up a future bilateral cooperation to
fight against hunger and poverty.
Attending the meeting, organized by the powerful Indian Farmers
Fertilizer Cooperative (IFFCO) and the Indian Government there are
representatives from a dozen of Latin American and Caribbean countries.
Cuba attends as a guest of honour.
The meeting’s goal is to establish permanent talks between both
regions and to identify cooperation spheres.
Food security lies in a sustainable agriculture, said P.K. Bansal,
Indian Minister of Water Resources and Parliamentary Affairs at the
opening ceremony of the event in this capital.
Professor M.S. Swaminathan, known as the father of the Green
Revolution in India stated that both parts have a lot of experience to
share.
He highlighted successes of the Zero Hunger Program began by Brazil’s
President Luiz Inacia Lula da Silva in 2003 and other projects developed
in Chile.
Cuban Agriculture Deputy Minister Jose Puente said that both regions
could fight together against hunger.
