First innings win for Matale CC

Matale Cricket Club scored a first innings win over Kandy Cricket Club in their P. Sara Trophy Cricket Tournament match concluded at Bernard Aluwihare Stadium in Matale yesterday.

Highlight of the match was the fine spin bowling of St. Thomas College, Matale skipper Ruwantha Kellepotha who captured 3 for 37 and 5 for 98 in the second innings to end up with a match bag of 8 for 135.

For Kandy CC Amith Jayaratne scored 70 with 9 fours in the second innings with Nipuna Ratnayake (50) and Dileepa Wanasinghe (55) also chipping with half centuries in the second innings.

Kandy CC 205 all out in 49.3 overs (Charith Nirmal 40, Nipuna Ratnayake 36, Dileepa Wanasinghe 28, Prasad Amarakoon 27, Asanga Totagamuwa 3 for 58, Prasanna Aluwihare 3 for 38, Ruwantha Kellepotha 3 for 37) and 269 all out in 59 overs (Amith Jayaratne 70, Nipuna Ratnayaka 50, Dilieepa Wanasinghe 55, Suresh Peiris 29, Ruwantha Kellepotha 5 for 98, Asanga Totagamuwa 2 for 44, Shaveendra Amaradasa 2 for 46).

Matale CC 264 all out in 55 overs (Shaveendra Amaradasa 59, Janith Welagedera 50, Prasanna Aluwihara 36, Asanga Totagamuwa 32, Ruchira Dandeniya 4 for 59, Dileepa Wanasinghe 3 for 51, Ranga Lihindapita 2 for 35).
