For the first time in Sri Lankan reality TV history three journalists
will take part in ‘Megastar’, Swarnavahini’s newest reality television
program which is aimed at bringing out the singing talent in popular
figures engaged in different sectors.
Journalist and Daily Mirror ‘Life’ Editor Ramesh Uvais, Sunday
Lakbima’s Ridma tabloid journalist Saman Priyankara Nammunige and
Sarasaviya film weekly journalist Asanka Devamithra Perera will be among
the 26 participants who will compete for the title.
Expressing his ideas to Daily News ‘Artscope’ Uvais stated that many
had known their names but only a few knew that they have talents beyond
the pen. ‘Megastar’ gives them a sense of dignity in providing a
platform to take their talents to the audience.
“We have been learning music from schooldays. I was a B grade singer
at SLBC’s light music programs. I am learning music under Sanath
Nandasiri for my Sangeetha Visharada Diploma and am one of the vocalists
in Manoj Peries’ band,” Namunnige related. He also stressed that they
have decided to oblige Swarnavahini’s request to attend the program
along with some of the prominent personalities of the nation.
“I thought twice about attending the contest as we would be competing
with some of the biggest names in diverse areas. This will not be a
challenge but a memorable event in my life as I would be going back to a
childhood passion before turning to journalism,” Perera opined on why he
decided to take part in ‘Megastar’.
All three are well known for their singing talents among their
colleagues and loved ones. They have contributed in vocals at concerts
and some popular programs telecast on television. |
