SLC sued for damage

Sri Lanka Cricket has been sued before the Commercial High Court
Colombo by an Insurance Company alleging that it had not settled so far
the due insurance instalments for the Sri Lanka-India International
Cricket Tournament 2008 insurance policy.
Merchant Bank of Sri Lanka Insurance Company Ltd filing the plaint
through G.G. Arulpragasam cited seven including Sri Lanka Cricket
chairman D. S. de Silva as the defendants.
The plaintiff stated that the SLC insured the Sri Lanka-India
International Cricket Tournament 2008 at their company for
16,015,446,000 US dollars. The instalment of the insurance policy was
619,158.22 US dollars.
The plaintiff stated that the SLC was aware that the Plaintiff
reinsured the same tournament at a foreign International Insurance
Company.
As the SLC did not settle the instalment plaintiff could not settle
their instalment to the foreign insurance company in turn. As a result
the International Insurance Company sued the plaintiff abroad and MBSL
Insurance Company had to pay a damage of 468,451 US Dollars.
Plaintiff stating that it was a damage to the plaintiff's image and
claimed Rs 200 million. |
