Mega housing complex for war heroes
A fully equipped Rs 4 billion housing complex consisting of 1509
housing units in Ipalogama, Anuradhapura built for the nation’s war
heroes was unveiled on Sunday.
The “Ranajayapura” fulfils a long neglected housing need of the
heroic forces who can now boast of a shelter of their own in the happy
and congenial surroundings of the historic Kalawewa. The project was a
concept of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, personaly overseen by Defence
Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, considering the monumental role played by
the heroic Armed Forces to bring to an end 30 years of war.
This is the first step in a much larger program where the President
has drafted the necessary plans for the immediate construction of 50,000
houses under the Ranaviru Village concept.
The complex takes the form of a compact city with all modern
amenities and facilities for sports, recreation, schooling etc. The
Ranaviru city is perhaps the first massive scale housing complex
anywhere dedicated to armed services.
It spans over 180 acres with each house standing on a 10 perch block
of land and built at a cost of Rs. 2.5 million. The town has a school, a
hospital, playground, IT facilities, carpeted roads, IT centres and a
fully equipped supermarket.
This is the first time that such a mega housing project has been
conceived and dedicated to the country’s war heroes. |
