Cancer hospital 'needs efficient waste disposal system'

The residents of Godigamuwa held a protest outside the Health Ministry demanding an efficient waste disposal system for the Maharagama Cancer Hospital.

The residents claimed that the hospital toilet waste and drainage were being released to the adjoining waterways and paddy fields.

They also demanded that radiative material should not be buried inside hospital grounds to prevent health hazards.

The protesters also called for the allocation of 50 percent of minor jobs at the hospital to area dwellers.

They urged relevant authorities to investigate the sudden transfer of the current Director of the Cancer Hospital.
