Northern Governor Maj. Gen. G.A. Chandrasiri has directed all health
officials in the North to safeguard the health of resettled families by
taking precautionary measures to prevent the spread of dengue, malaria
and other epidemics during the current rainy season.
He made this directive at a progress review meeting of the
resettlement program in Mannar, Vavuniya and Kilinochchi held at the
Vavuniya ACLG office on Thursday. The Governor addressing the meeting
directed officials to launch a housing project at Manthai west to
facilitate the resettlement of 7,000 IDP families.
Special bus services from Jaffna to Paranthan (via Manthai) and
Thunukkai and from Vavuniya to Mankulam through Thunukkai would be
inaugurated to ease the transport problems of State officials and the
public, he said. This will be in addition to the provision of 200 motor
cycles for public servants in the North and trucks to transport goods
and other provisions for the convenience of re-settled families. He also
directed officials to be ready to launch the IDP re-settlement program
in Killinochchi district next week. Chief Secretary V. Sivasamy,
Killinochchi GA Mrs. Rupawathi Ketheeswaran and other officials attended
