Novel Influenza (A H1N1) threat:

Kandy schools close from Monday

In view of the fast spreading new influenza viral fever in the Central Province, the Government has decided to close down all schools in the province from November 23.

This decision follows a meeting Central Province Governor Tikiri Kobbekaduwa had on Thursday with the Central Province Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake, health officials and education authorities in the province.

At the meeting, health authorities stated that 10 persons had already died of suspected A H1N1 fever in the province.

Governor Tikiri Kobbekaduwa said that there were more than 500,000 students in schools in the province and the danger of the disease spreading was possible and added that this decision was taken to arrest the situation.
