Unsafe, low quality products:
Five State drug suppliers banned for two years

Healthcare and Nutrition Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva said that
the Ministry has stopped using injections, saline and other drugs
supplied by the companies which provided unsafe injections, saline and
other drugs to Sri Lanka.
Pharmaceuticals: Quality is essential |
Arrangements will be made to estimate the total value of those drugs
in order to obtain refunds from the companies, a Healthcare and
Nutrition Ministry spokesman said.
The Minister ordered the National Drugs Authority to inform the SPC
to recall all drugs and calculate their total value.
The registration of those five companies will be suspended for two
years and during the two years, the companies are required to provide
Good Medical Producers Report (GMP Certification) at their cost. The
certification will be obtained by a team of professionals sent by the
Healthcare and Nutrition Ministry.
If the five companies fail to produce the GMP Certification within
five years or fail to produce quality drugs they will be blacklisted.
Sri Lanka obtains 18 injections from Belco Pharma, India and obtain
drugs and injections from Vins Bioproducts Limited, India, Kilitch Drugs
India Ltd and Baxter, India.
