Sujata Jayawardena Memorial Oration

The 6th Annual Sujata Jayawardena Memorial Oration organized by the Colombo University Alumni Association will be delivered by Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga on November 26, Thursday at the BMICH at 5.45 p.m.

He will deliver the Oration on the topic "Education: Where do we go from here?"

This Memorial Oration is organized in memory of one of the illustrious Past Presidents of the Alumni Association, the late Sujata Jayawardena. Under her stewardship the Alumni Association set out to build closer and better relations between the University and its undergraduates by initiating many programs. Mrs. Jayawardena, realizing that accommodation was a severe problem for undergraduates, took up the challenge to build a 5-storeyed hostel complex in Buller's Lane, Colombo 7. The novelty of this project was that the funds were raised through the contributions of hundreds of donors.

The hostel complex, opened in 1996, accommodates over 550 women undergraduates. The Colombo University as a mark of gratitude to the late Mrs. Jayawardena, renamed the hostel complex as the Sujata Jayawardena Memorial Hostel Complex after her demise.

Those interested in attending this year's Memorial Oration are requested to email:alumni. colombo@gmail. com or call 2585616/ 0777607772 for invitations.
