Supplementary estimate for subsidy payment

A Supplementary Estimate of Rs. 50 million was presented to Parliament yesterday for a subsidy payment to distribute high quality seeds among farmers.

Agriculture Development and Agrarian Services Minister Maithripala Sirisena moved the Supplementary Estimate. The Supplementary Estimate was submitted to grant subsidy payment to ensure the production of high quality seeds such as seed paddy, seed potato, supplementary food crop seeds, fruit and vegetable seeds and distributing them among the farmers at a reasonable price.

The production of seeds and planting materials were done in 15 farms located islandwide in various climate zones.
