CEB Unions discuss compromise formula

A few CEB Trade Unions have decided to continue with the work-to-rule
campaign while a majority of TUs ended their work-to-rule campaign
following the Government declaration of the CEB, Ceylon Petroleum
Corporation, Sri Lanka Ports Authority and the Water Supply and Drainage
Board as essential services.
Media Secretary, Ministry of Power and Energy, Harsha Abeykoon said
that following the agreement reached between the Trade Unions and CEB
administration, a majority of the TUs had decided to end their protests.
He said that only the JVP led Trade Unions were acting according to
their political agenda, but have so far sailed to cause any loss.
According to the agreement reached, there will be a basic salary
increment of 22 percent and an additional allowance of Rs. 1,000.
President, Lanka Electricity Workers Union' ('Lanka Viduli Sevaka
Sangamaya'), Ranjan Jayalal said his Union was determined to carry out
the work-to-rule into a strike if the Government continued to ignore
their requests.
Discussions are currently underway between the CEB administration and
Trade Unions. |
