Six suspected AH1N1 deaths in Kandy

Six suspected AH1N1 patients including two expectant mothers have died in the Kandy district during the last two weeks.

The two expectant mothers were being treated at the Kandy and Peradeniya Teaching Hospitals. Doctors said they had symptoms similar to the AH1N1 virus. This was revealed at a conference attended by Provincial Health Authorities at the Kandy Hospital.

Provincial Director of Health Services Dr Shanthi Samarasinghe said influenza is fast spreading in the province due to the current heavy rains. It is very difficult to distinguish between normal influenza patients and AH1N1 patients as the symptoms are similar.
