Ceylonta to showcase Sri Lankan talent

Ceylonta has undertaken to showcase the talents of many Sri Lankans in both performing and non performing arts.

Ceylonta believes in refreshing lives by unlocking the innate talents of many. "Ceylonta Probodaya" which sparks off new possibilities has drawn more than 20,000 applications from all over the island. These were selected rigorously screened by a panel of judges. Here some of the contestants who participated.

Super Waasi for Arapaima cardholders

NOLIMIT - recently launched the Super Waasi in-store promotion exclusively for its Arapaima loyalty cardholders. The Super Waasi promo offers NOLIMIT's Arapaima loyalty cardholders opportunities to enter a raffle draw and win holiday packages to Malaysia. Sixteen lucky winners will be selected from NOLIMIT's fashion stores spread islandwide at a grand draw to be held after the end of the promotion. The Super Waasi promotion which commenced in November ends on December 4.

To participate, Arapaima cardholders will have to earn 50 Arapaima points by purchasing goods to the value of Rs. 2,500 from any of NOLIMIT's 16 fashion stores or redeem 200 Arapaima points from the existing points already earned. The Arapaima card can be used at NOLIMIT, Glitz or Pallu fashion stores to enter the competition.

Arapaima is NOLIMIT's in-house customer loyalty program which has over 103,000 members, making it one of the biggest loyalty programs in the country.

The Arapaima card comes in two categories viz. Silver and Gold. Every Silver card member will earn two points when they purchase Rs. 100 worth goods whilst every gold card member will earn three points for every Rs. 100 spent. Arapaima card members can redeem their points at the very next purchase once they have earned points, and points thus earned will be converted to Rupees and could be deducted from their very next bill as payment for goods purchased. Customers can apply for the Arapaima card at any NOLIMIT fashion store where they will receive their Arapaima card instantly. Arapaima cards are renewed every three years, and the new Arapaima cards can be collected by the customers from the NOLIMIT fashion store after two weeks of submitting their renewal applications.

HNB annual report wins SAFA awards

Hatton National Bank (HNB) was adjudged the joint winner of the best presented accounts for the "Banking sector subjected to prudential supervision" and the first runner-up in the category of "Corporate Governance Disclosure" at the recently held South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA) best presented accounts and corporate disclosure awards,

SAFA set up in 1984 is the apex professional body of the accountants in the SAARC region which has representation of the accounting bodies from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka.

Winners are selected trough stringent selection criteria by a panel of judges based on the presentation and disclosure of high quality, relevant, reliable and objectively comparable financial statements meeting International Accounting Standards (IAS) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). From 2005 the award for the Corporate Governance Disclosure was included to promote good governance in corporate bodies. The criteria for the corporate governance disclosures include clear and comprehensive disclosures in annual reports on the duties of and responsibilities of Directors, the structure and responsibilities of Audit Committees, compliance with relevant laws and regulations, commitment to employees and responsibility to the society.

Chief Financial Officer Nihal Kekulawala said the bank is honoured by the recognition given by SAFA which is a good testament towards the bank's commitment on transparent reporting and good governance.

Wrinkle free steam washing from LG

LG Electronics (LG), a leader in consumer electronics has introduced its innovative LG Steam Tromm Washing Machine. This washing machine incorporates innovative steam technology in the washing process for the first time in the world.

LG has after research and development, been able to incorporate the eco-friendly steam technology used to clean clothes using less water and energy, while at the same time preventing shrinkage and extending the life of the garment.

This washing machine has several innovative features such as the "Refresh Course Process", which allows users to deal with wrinkles without ironing.

Two inlet valves to the drum produce a "Dual Spray" which evenly circulates the detergent and sprays steam on the laundry for 40 minutes to improve washing performance and eliminate harmful germs and bacteria.

According to tests conducted by the Accredited Testing and Research Institute, LG's Steam Washing Machine offers improved washing performance by 20 percent over the conventional Drum Washing Machines.

Whereas the traditional high heat washing process wastes energy in heating up the water and the chamber, the LG Steam Tromm utilizes steam for the same result with half the energy requirement.

It also reduces water usage by 27 percent and reduces the washing time dramatically. It also uses steam to effectively dry the laundry and clean the interior of the machine.
